Kraft-E Club Craft Newsletter – November 2008

Happy Birthday to www.KraftyKid.com

It is so hard to believe that 4 years ago I quit my corporate job to bring to life a business that brings joy to so many people! I still remember the very first day we launched our website www.kraftykid.com. We started out with a few club options and then as our customers demanded more variety, we continued to modify and add to our current selection. Now we offer many different clubs for all ages, and I am happy to say that I’m sure we will be around for many, many years to come.

To celebrate our 4th year, we are giving away one free month of crafts with each subscription purchase. So when you order 3 months of crafts, you’ll get 4. When you order 6 months of crafts, you’ll get 7. Simply order any craft of the month club that is 3 months or greater in length, then use code: 4YEARS and press update when you checkout. This offer expires on 11/30/2008.

Remember…our clubs make a great Christmas gift that continue to give all year long!

Teacup Dessert Plate Stand

I love taking things that are old and turning them into something that is gorgeous! I was shopping at a thrift store the other day and noticed that they had an incomplete china set on sale for $1.50. Yes…there were 18 pieces in the set for $1.50. So I took the set home and made a dessert stand out of some of the pieces. I used 6 pieces on this stand so I guess it cost about .60 to make this one. It looked great and was very simple to make! More...

Celebrating the Olympics

As I write this newsletter this month, I am inspired by all of the athletes competing in this years Olympic Games. I can’t help but admire the amount of dedication, training, and focus each of these athletes have. Of course anyone who has seen the news has heard that Michael Phelps broke Mark Spitz’s record by winning his eighth gold of the Games on Sunday. That is truly magnificent and inspiring!

Even my children are now interested in sports – so I happily signed them up for basketball this Fall. I tell them that they can do anything that they desire in life as long as they work to achieve it. I think that is one of the biggest lessons I can share with them from the Olympic games. That you can do anything!

This month we are celebrating the Olympic games at http://www.kraftykid.comwith fun Olympic crafts. I hope they spur conversations of dedication, hard work, and Olympic dreams in your family!

Olympic Torch

For this fun craft – all you need is tissue paper, aluminum foil, tape, and a paper towel roll. More…

Olympic Medal

Every kid deserves his/her own gold medal. Simply print out the template on our website, color, cut, and add yarn. More…

Olympic Flag & Let the Games Begin!

After you make your own Olympic flag (more…), why not try some of these fun games at home?

  • Relay Racing: Using the Olympic torch that you have made, have teams with at least 2 runners on each team race by passing the torch in a relay style.
  • Obstacle Course: Set up an obstacle course in your backyard using lawn furniture, old tires, and anything else you can find that people have to go around, climb under or over, and go through.
  • Volleyball: Play volleyball with blankets. Instead of trying to hit the ball back and forth, each team must catch the ball with a blanket and throw it back the same way!
  • Archery: Set up 6 foam cups on the table in a pyramid. Have participates shoot rubber bands at them to knock the most off of the table.
  • Bowling: Set up six 2-liter soda pop bottles like bowling pins, and see who can knock the most down by rolling a ball towards them.
  • Shot Put: Using a bean bag, put it under your chin, spin around, and throw it to see who can throw it the farthest.
  • Javelin throw: See how far your straw will travel.

I hope that you’ve enjoyed celebrating the Olympic Games – Kraftykid style! Have a great August and keep krafting!

Kraft-E Club Craft Newsletter – January 2008

Kraft-E Club Craft Newsletter – January 2008

Happy New Year!

This month we’re exploring the winter season in many of our craft clubs. Boy is it cold outside!

When it’s cold in Arizona, I think it’s safe to say its cold pretty much everywhere else. What do you do when it is too cold to play outside? One of my favorite things to do is craft. Lately I’ve been trying a new craft for me – beading. It’s always fun to try new crafts! Besides crafting, I like to snuggle up with a good book and a hot cup of cocoa. Reading is so fun, and I always learn something new or imagine myself traveling to a new and exciting place!

Whatever you like to do when it’s cold, I hope that it brings a smile to your face. Welcome to 2008!

In this issue:
  1. Fun Shaving Cream Craft Idea
  2. Our boutique is open!
  3. 2008 Calendar Craft Idea
Fun Shaving Cream Craft Idea

We loved the candy cane craft we made last month so much that we decided to do it again – but with a snow theme! Only a few items are needed to make this snowman – shaving cream, paper, sticks, a raisin and a fun spirit will complete this work of art. Additionally, the shaving cream makes cleaning the paint brushes a cinch! When your snow man is dry, you can touch the softness of the snow on your fingertips. It’s a great craft to make this winter!

To view the instructions on how to make this puffy paint with shaving cream – click here.

Kraft-E Club Craft Newsletter – April 2008

It’s April and Spring is in the air! With Earth Day just around the corner, are you thinking of ways to help the Earth? We are! We’ve got some fun tips for you in this issue along with some Earth Day coloring books and activities! So be sure to keep reading!

In this issue:
  1. Simple Things to Help Save the Planet
  2. Free Craft Idea – Earth Day Coloring Book
  3. Free Craft Idea – Recycling Coloring Book
  4. Free Craft Idea – Solar System Craft Idea
  5. Giveaways – National Craft Month Winners…
Simple Things to Help Save the Planet…

Saving the planet begins with you and there are so many simple things you can do to conserve our precious resources. Here is a list of simple ideas that you can implement today:

  1. Use reusable grocery bags. You can purchase these for cheap at almost any store these days. I have quite a few from a recent trade show I attended. I keep them in my car and use them instead of plastic bags. They’re also handy for gathering small items, papers, and other items from my van into my office.
  2. Use a tissue box to hold your plastic bags. Instead of throwing those plastic bags in the trash, stuff them into an empty tissue box. You’ll have them handy when you need them for lunch bags, trash bags, or any other use.
  3. Grow your own vegetables. You’ll save bag/container waste and gas by not having to run to the store for your salad. My husband planted lettuce this year and I’m so surprised by the harvest! I haven’t had to run to the store for salad in the last month. It also tastes delicious!
  4. Buy resale. A Goodwill recently opened up by my house and I was thrilled. The selection was amazing and the prices were great. I picked up a 2 pair of pants for about $11. Both pairs looked brand new. One pair had really cute embroidered butterflies on it and was from a company calledTalbots. A great find!
  5. Change your bulbs. The hottest thing in household energy savings is the compact fluorescent lightbulb (CFL), a funny-looking swirl that fits into standard sockets. CFLs cost three to five times as much as conventional incandescent bulbs yet use one-quarter the electricity and last several years longer.
  6. Unplug your extra freezer or refrigerator when you don’t need it. I recently realized that fresh meat is much better than the meat that’s been in my freezer for weeks. So now I rarely use my freezer. It’s unplugged until the next big sale on frozen pizza!
  7. Wash your clothes in cold water. This is a tip passed down from my mom. She always washed my clothes in cold water and they always looked great.
  8. Drive when you NEED to, walk or bike when you can. It’s a great workout too!
  9. Use products you already have. One of the biggest reasons why I started KraftyKid.com was to share craft ideas from products that people have around the house. I wasn’t able to get out much with a preemie baby (with many issues) so I started to come up with ideas to reuse items in my house for crafts. You can view them here.
  10. Be an example. One of the best things you can do is model eco-friendly habits. People will notice…especially the little ones living in your home.
Earth Day Printable Coloring Book

Your child create their very own book about Earth Day. This book titled “My Earth Day Word Book” will help them recognize words like reuse, reduce, recycle. Simply print out the book, staple, and color! It’s a great project for learning! More…

Decoupage Piggy Bank

Decoupage Piggy Bank from Paper Craft Project

Turn an old piggy bank into a fashion statement. All that you need is an old piggy bank, decoupage glue, tissue paper (or decopauge paper – we like decopatch), paint brush, and scissors. more…

Decoupage Cell Phone

Decoupage Cell Phone Craft Project

I won’t recommend this for anyone whose phone is still under warranty. Decoupaging your phone will most likely void your warranty. However, if you have a phone that’s a few years old, not under warranty, and you’re tired of the way it looks, then you can give it a new look with decoupage. I was a a crafting conference one week and decided to go crazy with the new Decopatch decoupage products. I turned my T Mobile Dash into a unique piece of art. Crazy? No way! I have gotten so many complements on my phone. Most of all, it makes me smile when I use it. more…

Decoupage Frame

Decoupage picture frame craft projectOnce you start decoupaging you might not want to stop. It’s so fun and can turn anything into a work of art. Inexpensive frames can be found at garage sales, dollar stores, and even resale shops. Decoupage them to coordinate with your room, office, or desk. Simply tear paper, apply with decoupage glue, and let dry. More…

I hope that you’ve enjoyed exploring the world of decoupage! Have a great June and keep krafting!

Sincerely,

Owner – www.kraftykid.com
