I love taking things that are old and turning them into something that is gorgeous! I was shopping at a thrift store the other day and noticed that they had an incomplete china set on sale for $1.50. Yes…there were 18 pieces in the set for $1.50. So I took the set home and made a dessert stand out of some of the pieces.

I used 6 pieces on this stand so I guess it cost about .60 to make this one. It looked great and was very simple to make!

Once complete, it would make a great inexpensive gift!

Supplies:

• Old plates and teacups
• Superglue

Instructions:

1. Simply stack one teacup on the biggest plate. The teacup can be upside down or right side up. Be creative.
2. Super glue the cup to the plate (watch out for your fingers…you don’t want to get super glue on anything but the cup).
3. Once dry, stack the smaller plate on top of the teacup and glue.
4. Add the next teacup.
5. Repeat until you are satisfied with your creation.

Here’s another one that I did out of black cups and plates. This one cost me about $1.00.

• Plain ceramic mug and plate
• Paint brushes
• Cup of water (for rinsing)
• Paper towels (for blotting)
• Newspaper
• Oven

Instructions:

1. Cover your work surface with newspaper.
2. Paint any design on a clean ceramic mug and plate using Pebeo Porcelaine paints. (the design on our plate says “Through the years we all will be together* Rollins 2006”
3. Paint the mug using the same color with a similar design to the plate.
4. Let dry for at least 24 hours.
5. Bake the finished mug in the oven at 300F for 35 minutes
6. The paint will be resistant to the dishwasher.

Supplies:

• Paint brushes
• Cup of water (for rinsing)

Personal Handmade Plates Make Great Keepsake Gifts!

Now you can bring your pottery painting store to your very own home at a fraction of the price!

Supplies:

• Pebeo 150 Porcelaine paints (colors, blue, red, yellow, green)
• Pebeo Porcelaine 150 blue pen
• Plain plate
• Paint brushes
• Cup of water (for rinsing)
• Paper towels (for blotting)
• Newspaper
• Oven

Instructions:

1. Cover your work surface with newspaper.
2. Wash your plate to ensure no particles on plate.
3. Paint hand with Porcelaine paints and place on plate. IMMEDIATELY WASH HANDS.
4. Using the tip of your finger make 2 dots in blue for the marching ants, and 1 dot in red for the lady bug. Repeat as desired, and wash hands.
5. Using your blue pen, write your favorite verse on the plate. We used Mark 10:14-16.
6. Let dry for at least 24 hours.
7. Bake the finished mug in the oven at 300F for 35 minutes.
8. The paint will be resistant to washing, but it is not recommended for products that serve food.

Handprint Ceramic Tile

I love handprint tiles.  I have quite a few of them in my curio cabinet.  Each year the handprints get bigger and bigger…sigh.  This craft is a fast and simple craft that would make any parent or grandparent smile.

Supplies:

• Ceramic tile
• Red and green tempera paint
• Black permanent marker

Instructions:

1. Using either red or green paint, place a print of your child’s hand on the tile.
2. Decorate with green and red paint splotches or dots.
3. Write their name in black permanent marker and don’t forget to add the date!
